AWA RT-85 (Australia)
Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) is an Australian brand with a long history in both LMR and consumer radio. The RT-85 radio was manufactured by A.W.A. in New Zealand, and shares the same Hitachi-Denshi OEM design as the popular North American Midland Syntech I radios, including the Z-273 channel programming module . Many RT-85 radios have been retired from government and commercial service and have become popular with amateur radio operators and for UHF CB use.
The RT-85 traditionally required a UV-EPROM eraser and an expensive, stand-alone 70-1000 programmer or rare 70-1000C PC-connected programmer to reconfigure the Z-273 EPROM channel module. More recently, Skyline Engineering in Australia has offered AWA RT-85 support in the PC-based 70-1000X PC-based programmer.
The RFguys PC-programmable Z-273 replacement module adds the functionality of a full 320 channels and the convenience of user-programmability to the durable A.W.A. RT-85 radios.
